Janette Gay

I am a visual and media artist working between Sydney and Adelaide.

By experimenting with glass etching, photography and video digital technology, as well as performance I aim to represent issues related to how the architectural space of the urban landscape can limit and confine urban living.  My video work mainly focuses on creating fictitious worlds from the maze of city architecture around us.

Urban environments, with their grid-like arrangements and white walls can serve to structure space and isolate individuals. Inside these environments, by incorporating performance into my videos and paintings I am interested in representing how individuals deal with the intimacy of urban apartment space.
